International Women’s Day is the perfect day for me to introduce an amazing woman that I look up to. Abisoye Ajayi is a woman who founded and directs an organization in Nigeria called Pearls Africa Foundation. Rising from her own tough childhood, she is now empowering girls in Africa, and all over the world, to overcome the hurdles of poverty, gender discrimination, and accessibility of education to claim jobs of their own that will provide a better life for all. Through her foundation, Abisoye teaches girls in Nigeria, age 10-17 coding, technology, entrepreneurship and public speaking. All skills that lead to confidence, self-esteem, leadership, and economic independence. I had the opportunity to work alongside Abisoye (right) and Jumoke, her legal consultant (left) for several days. These women are an inspiration to me and all those whose lives they touch. The world is a better place because of them! Check out their work at pearlsafrica.org.
